Hello
My academic training and research experience have provided me with an excellent background in multiple scientific disciplines including oceanography, cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, and geoscience. Throughout my years of experience, I have laid the groundwork for establishing and maintaining a sponge cell biobank, developing cell models to better understand cellular and molecular processes in sponges, and using sponge cell culture for in vitro production of sponge-derived chemicals.
My Story
I am fascinated by this beautiful planet that we call home, which has propelled me to pursue this career. Whether I am diving the reefs or sketching ideas on the back of a napkin, I've been driven by a desire to understand how things work.

During my early research experience (2009 – 2014) focused on salamander genetics, water quality and sediment transport, and harmful algal blooms until I discovered a passion for cell culture.

My research journey commenced when I came upon a challenge to develop a marine sponge cell line which had never been achieved. On a whim in 2019, our research group developed the first marine invertebrate cell lines, which was a breakthrough achievement and now forms the basis for our continued research.

During the past five years (2019 - 2025), I have laid the groundwork for establishing and maintaining a sponge cell biobank, developing cell models to better understand cellular and molecular processes in sponges, and using sponge cell culture for in vitro production of sponge-derived chemicals.

I consider myself a lifelong learner who embraces a growth mindset, and I’m especially passionate about empower the next generation of researchers through mentorship and hands-on experience.
